SCF’s Mission is to provide programs and support for infants, children and youth with special needs and their families.
Special Children’s Friends is a Hancock County, Maine based program which serves children and youth with special needs and their families. We believe that children are best served in the context of their families, and that family involvement is essential to children’s healthy development.
Building trusting relationships with families, focusing on existing strengths to address identified needs and working as part of a family focused team which includes community providers, therapists, and family identified supports are key to SCF’s philosophy.
In that context, we provide nursery school programs and individual developmental therapy for children birth through school aged five who have identified special needs coupled with support services for their families. We offer community-based play groups, outreach support and consultation, as well as case management services for youth and children through the age of twenty one. Partnering with Child Development Services and Downeast Health Services, SCF works as an essential contributing partner to the County’s Infant Assessment Team.
Persons or organizatins interested in Special Children’s Friends are invited to join us in helping to bring services to children with special needs and their families in Hancock County.
SCF is a non-profit corporation and a United Way designated agency and is supported in part by Maine’s Department of Health and Human Services.
