Special Children’s Friends (SCF) receives referrals for specialized preschool programming and Targeted Case Management from Child Development Services, parents, physicians, nurses, child care providers, nursery school teachers and other community agencies serving children in Hancock County.

  • Developmental pre-school for children 2 to 5 years of age – SCF is licensed for 30 children.  Early intervention preschool services are paid for by Child Development Services and/or by Mainecare via school based Section 28 services.
  • Targeted Case Management (TCM)SCF offers TMC services to children throughout Hancock County with Intellectual Disabilities ages 0-20.  All TCM services are paid for through Mainecare/Katie Beckett.
  • Community-based play groups– SCF offers free community playgroups as demand for this service necessitates.  Free drop-in playgroups are open to the public for all children ages 0-5.
  • In Home Developmental Therapy programs (early intervention home teaching). All referrals for this service must come through Child Development Services.
  • Respite– SCF provides evening respite one time per month for our enrolled preschool children and their siblings under the age of 6.
  • Community Outreach– SCF offers workshops, participates in the annual Early Childhood Conference, playgroups, and offers consultation services to local preschools/nursery schools.
